Kindergarten
Kindergartners are bubbling with new thoughts and ideas. Our kindergarten curriculum is aligned with state standards and integrates social studies, science, math, art, and technology, fostering a growing understanding of how everything in our world is interconnected. As kids settle down to work, they apply the reading, writing, and math skills they began developing in their preschool years. Both small and whole group instruction bring reading and writing to life. In our art studio, kindergartners are free to express their newfound ideas in creative ways through paint, print-making, clay, and recycled materials. Through science and social studies exploration, our students learn about our world and cultivate critical thinking skills.
Morning Meeting and daily routines provide multiple opportunities for whole group discussion and mini-lessons that take students into the work of the day. Opportunities to be authors, illustrators, speakers and scientists are abundant in this classroom. Just as important, our students work hard on regulating their emotions, being good friends and doing small and great things for the greater good.
Writing
We teach writing with explicit instruction and ample opportunity for practice through a writer's workshop approach. Kids will write with fluency and well-developed text. The workshop gives children power not only as writers, but also thinkers, learners and readers. Powerful writing instruction produces visible and immediate results.
Math
Our Math curriculum follows a sequence of mathematical progression that maximizes coherence and fluency. Aligning with Oregon State Standards, Bridges blends direct instruction, structured investigation, and open exploration. It taps into intelligence and strengths of all students by presenting material that is as linguistically, visually, and kinesthetically rich.
Reading
Our readers workshop approach provides focused and explicit instruction on reading skills and strategies so children can become flexible and resilient readers who read for pleasure as well as academic purposes. Each day's instruction builds on the day prior while children interact with books, charts, pictures, songs, games & poetry. Children have ample time to read! Each student has individualized reading specific for their development.
The Arts
The arts are an integral part of our program because of the importance of developing creative problem-solving skills and critical thinking. We see our children excel with development of motor skills, language skills, social skills, decision-making, risk-taking, and inventiveness. The arts provides challenges for children at all levels and helps children connect with their own culture as well as the wider world.
Resurrection Catholic Parish School is a loving, faithful community of students, staff and families devoted to the spiritual, emotional and intellectual development of each child. As unique creations of God, our children are empowered to use their active and creative minds, to grow in understanding and compassion for others and to have the courage to live their beliefs.
